Last night the Philadelphia General Management Branch of the Industrial Workers of the World had their first official meeting! Several of us have been working on this since March, and we are proud to have received our charter. But, the real work starts now.
I admit this makes me nervous. I am new to the world of labor organizing and learning as I go. My first task will be to put together an Organizer 101 training for the branch. I think this task fits my skill sets well and I am excited to host the event. It will be a good opportunity to connect with nearby branches and the surrounding community.
Also, as branch secretary, it is my responsibility to maintain member roles and track the paperwork going to the general executive branch and the IRS. I am looking forward to this as well. These are tasks most people seem to be less excited about in activism but that I can do without an anxiety attack.
